The All-Party Parliamentary Rowing Group has welcomed efforts by the sport’s governing body, British Rowing, to further improve inclusivity and diversity in rowing.
British Rowing last week (8 March) launched an Inclusive Club Guide, written in partnership with Sporting Equals and in consultation with the rowing community across the country.
The aim of the guide is to support rowing clubs to become more inclusive by highlighting the benefits of being inclusive, explaining inclusivity and its importance in creating a diverse sport that is open to all, and providing practical advice on developing or creating an inclusive club.
All-Party Parliamentary Rowing Group Co-Chair and Member of Parliament for Hendon, Dr Matthew Offord MP, said “I am delighted that British Rowing have launched the Inclusive Club Guide.
“Rowing is a fantastic sport for all, and can have huge benefits on the lives of those involved.
“I hope that this guide, and British Rowing’s Inclusive Sport Plan, will go a long way to ensuring that rowing is more representative of our diverse society.”
Group Co-Chair Lord Thomas of Gresford added “it is vital that we have a more inclusive and diverse rowing community, to aid the development and growth of our sport.
“British Rowing’s Inclusive Rowing Guide is very welcome, and I call on all involved in the sport to work together to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to row, and ensure that rowing a sport that is inclusive and open to all.”
