The All-Party Parliamentary Rowing Group has announced that the Parliamentary Charity Regatta will be postponed until further notice.
Access to the slipway on Albert Embankment at Vauxhall is not available until at least 2024, and although the Group has investigated alternatives, the practicalities and costs of an alternate solution mean that there is no option but to postpone the regatta for the foreseeable future.
In the meantime, the Group will pursue opportunities to enter a Parliamentary boat at other regattas, and look at options to hold the race as part of another event.
Group Co-Chair and Member of Parliament for Hendon, Dr Matthew Offord MP, said “it is a shame that the Group has to postpone the Parliamentary Charity Regatta, but the Group has investigated every possible alternative and concluded that the regatta will be postponed until further notice.
“The Group plans to provide Members of Parliament and Peers with alternative opportunities to get out on the water, and raise money for charity in the process.”
Co-Chair Lord Thomas of Gresford added “the Parliamentary Charity Regatta has raised a great deal of money over recent years, and I would like to thank everyone who has made it such a successful event.
“The Group will now look to find other opportunities for a Parliamentary boat to race in other regattas, and also at the possibility of holding a race between the House of Lords and House of Commons as part of another event.”
